Longevida San Pablo Burgos suffered defeat against UEMC Real Valladolid Baloncesto in the regional derby. Lolo Encinas’ men started the match with good collective work in the first half, which allowed them to control the duel until halftime. Paco García’s men came out better after passing through the locker room, with a renewed strength that allowed them to take the reins of the light. The visitors battled for the game until the final moments, but it was the locals who had a better success in the last actions and took the victory at the Pisuerga Sports Center. Encouraged by the advantage, the locals continued to do good work in the paint, which continued to pay off on the scoreboard (56-51). Speight and Miha Lapornik tried for the visitors, who came close again (61-60), until they restored balance in the derby (64-64). A triple by Schmidt at the buzzer sealed the third period in Valladolid (67-64).
Once again, the Valladolid team started the final quarter better and increased its maximum advantage to 8 points (72-64), against a team from Burgos that collided with the wall of the local defense and that did not score the free throws. Gonzalo Corbalán changed the dynamic with two consecutive good actions, which sent the duel to timeout (72-69). Lapornik completed a 0-8 partial that returned equality on the scoreboard (72-72).
Encinas’ team tried to progress from defense, but García’s team obtained a better performance from their free throws and scored a triple with which they opened the distance again (82-76). Lapornik and Corbalán assumed the responsibility of equalizing the contest again and achieved it with two minutes remaining (82-82). UEMC Real Valladolid Baloncesto played more successfully in its last actions, regaining the lead (87-84). Siim Sander Vene and Lapornik had three-point options in the final possessions, but they could not see the basket, and Schmidt closed the regional derby in favor of the locals at the Pisuerga Sports Center (91-84).
The Burgos team will play its next LEB Oro match against Cáceres, a World Heritage Site, on Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 p.m., at the Coliseum.
