Tyrolean Judoka Thrive at National Team Training Camp and Grand Prix

The Tyrolean judoka Lorenz Horngacher, Christian Hörner, Sven Wolf, Simon Margreiter, Felix Einfinger, Mavie Rabl, Rosalie Baumann and Niklas Kern, accompanied by coach Thomas Rabl, experienced an exciting weekend from March 8th to 10th, 2024. The 8 athletes were invited by the national team to the training camp at the Olympic base in Linz and also to the Grand Prix that was taking place at the same time. The training camp was an exciting and impressive experience for the judoka. It was a unique opportunity to learn and develop from both experienced athletes and renowned coaches. The athletes’ first training session on Friday took place after the final block in the weight classes -60, -66 for men and -48, -52 for women. The first session was a Randori training with 12 Tachi-waza (standing fights) of 3 minutes each in 2 groups and 4 Newaza (ground fights) of 3 minutes each. The next day the group was divided into age groups. The first group was the U18 athletes and the U16 athletes, who will start the European Cup a week later in Porec. The first group’s training started at 7:30 a.m. They practiced their Toku-waza from several competition situations. After the training, the remaining U16 athletes trained. After the final block of the weight classes -73, -81 for men and -63, -70 for women, the athletes did another Randori training, with the same number and time as the previous day. On the last day, the young judoka had the opportunity to train his Newaza technique with former Olympic medalist Sebastian Seidl. They were also able to practice provoking and then reacting correctly to the opponent’s behavior with the Olympic medalist Igor Wandtke, who fought at the Grand Prix the previous day. The judoka enjoyed being part of such an exciting and inspiring event and returned home with valuable experiences and insights.
