With another demonstration of power, record world champion Francesco Friedrich won the overall World Cup in the two-man bobsleigh. Second and third places also went to German bobsleighs.

In the last race of the season in Lake Placid, New York, the 33-year-old came out ahead of his teammates Johannes Lochner (Stuttgart) and Adam Ammour (Oberhof), who were also on the podium behind the Saxon in the overall standings.

For Friedrich, who won a World Cup race in a pair for the first time this season with pusher Alexander Schüller, it is already the sixth triumph in the overall two-man World Cup.

Friedrich also achieved overall victory in the four-man bobsleigh

Lochner’s downfall in Altenberg in mid-February was his downfall. The 33-year-old had dominated the season until his accident with four wins in six races, but subsequently struggled with neck problems. After the World Cup title in Winterberg, victory in the overall World Cup also went to his rival Friedrich.

“We can be very satisfied, it was good preparation for the World Cup here next year,” commented Friedrich. The two-time double Olympic champion added: “However, the overall victory belongs to Hansi. If he hadn’t fallen in Altenberg, he would have clearly won it. We are incredibly sorry for Hansi, he has won most of the two-man races this year. But At least we were competitive in the last race and can happily take the trophy home with us.”

The men’s foursome season ends on Saturday. Friedrich is on the verge of overall victory there too.
