Tragedy met Sabalenkova. Her partner, a former NHL player, died at the age of 42

At the age of 42, former Belarusian hockey player and friend of current tennis number two Aryna Sabalenkova Konstantin Koltsov died suddenly. According to Belarusian media, the cause of death was a broken blood clot while accompanying his partner to an upcoming tournament in Miami.

His death was reported by the Belarusian Federation and also by the Russian club Salavat Yulayev Ufa, with whom the former striker won the league title in 2008 and the Gagarin Cup in the Continental League three years later.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenkova is registered for the tournament in Miami and is scheduled to play her first match on Friday.

According to the Belarusian server smartpress.by, it was there, when he was accompanying his partner, that he suffered health problems and died as a result of a detached blood clot.

Koltsov represented Belarus at the 2002 and 2010 Olympics and nine World Championships. He also played in the NHL for Pittsburgh. He ended his career in 2016 and last worked in Ufa as an assistant coach.

He and the twenty-five-year-old Sabalenko had been a couple publicly for three years.
