Things aren’t going as planned for the Toronto Raptors at the moment. Not only that the club of the currently injured Viennese Jakob Pöltl suffered its eleventh NBA defeat in a row with the 88:96 against the Brooklyn Nets and therefore hardly has any chance of a play-off place. The Canadians are now suspected of betting fraud. The league is currently investigating Jontay Porter’s behavior on the floor. The reason: Unusual bets on Porter’s performance were registered at Raptors games this season, a league spokesman said. There is a suspicion that the 24-year-old was substituted to make winnings possible.
According to ESPN, unknown people had bet unusually large amounts on Porter’s number of points, rebounds, assists and three-point shots. The focus is on the home games against the Clippers and Sacramento on January 26th and March 20th. In both games, Porter didn’t play for more than four minutes and was substituted early on. Once because of an eye injury, once because of illness. He remained pointless in both games; he recorded three rebounds and one assist against the Clippers and only two rebounds against Sacramento.
Porter made his NBA debut in 2021 for the Memphis Grizzlies. He has been under contract with the Raptors since December.
