Timo Baumgartl was left out of the professional squad by Schalke 04 a few weeks ago.
As has now become known, the decision to suspend the central defender, who only moved to Royal Blue from PSV Eindhoven last summer, was not made for sporting reasons.
According to “Bild”, the 28-year-old is said to have made some disciplinary mistakes and treated his teammates in an uncollegial manner. The tabloid mentions incidents such as making fun of other players in training when they made a mistake.
In addition, the central defender is said to have posted a photo with his private coach before the game against FC St. Pauli, revealing prematurely that he would not be part of the matchday squad.
Head coach Karel Geraerts’ patience only broke when Baumgartl went out in the evening before the 5-2 defeat against Hertha. A return of the defensive man to the fighting team under the Belgian therefore currently seems impossible.
