PORTIMAO, KOMPAS.com – Pramac Racing racer Jorge Martin finished in third place in the 2024 Portugal MotoGP sprint race. Martin was overtaken by Gresini Racing racer Marc Marquez who finished in second place.

Martin said that at that time he was not trying to compete with Marquez. The reality is that Marquez overtook him in the corner easily because he had technical problems.

“I wasn’t the best at that corner. I didn’t fight with Marquez at that corner, he passed me,” said Martin as quoted by GPOne, Sunday (24/3/2024).

“But at least I managed to get a number of points. I hope I can do even better tomorrow (main race), I also hope problems like this don’t happen again,” he said.

Martin said that throughout the sprint race he experienced technical problems, namely the motorbike vibrating, similar to what he experienced during the official test in Qatar.

“Yes, this was a complicated race. When (Jack) Miller passed me at the start of the race I had to step on the gas, that’s where I lost a lot. To regain my position I probably used a lot of tires and the motorbike’s vibrations returned like in Qatar,” he said.

Martin analyzed that the hot temperature on the front wheels also influenced this.

“Maybe the high heat at the front also has an effect. If feeling “I was good, I could overtake Vinales and make up the distance in front,” said Martin.

“But whatever the podium with so many problems, this is a positive result,” he said.

After the Portuguese MotoGP sprint race, Ducati factory team racer Francesco Bagnaia was still at the top with 37 points, followed by Martin with 35 points.
