Wednesday, March 27th, 5:01 p.m.: VfB professional Mo Dahoud leaves early

At VfB Stuttgart there were only a few players on the pitch during the public training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. The reason: nine professionals were traveling with their national teams. Including Mahmoud Dahoud, who actually wanted to make his debut for Syria. The emphasis is on actually, then: The professional left early – why?

The Syrian association announced via Instagram that the professional had left on Tuesday morning. They were unable to meet the demands made by Dahoud’s advisors. Dahoud announced his change of association just two weeks ago. The 28-year-old has already appeared twice for the German senior national team, but not in any competitive games. According to the regulations of the world association FIFA, a change is still possible.

“Out of the greatest respect,” Dahoud, who was born in Syria and grew up in Germany, said in an Instagram story that he did not want to comment on the association’s statement on match day. “Top football works according to certain principles that must be known, respected and fulfilled,” he continued. If you feel that these principles and promises made are not being fulfilled, you have to take a step back. (sik/dpa)

While Führich only took part at the beginning, Ito did his rounds. The remaining national players got a break.

One person was missing compared to the previous day: Atakan Karazor. The midfielder did not take part due to illness. Enzo Millot was also missing with a cold. Mahmoud Dahoud had left the Syrian national team the day before, but was not yet on the pitch on Mercedesstrasse. Leonidas Stergiou (Switzerland U21) was also missing. (sik)
