Colorful hair, made-up eyes and sticking out tongue: most people know this image of The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint. But until his early death on March 4, 2019, he was not only a musician, but also a racing team owner, for example. You may not have known these five things about Flint.

Keith Flint’s childhood was anything but easy. There were repeated arguments between him and his parents, who had separated at an early age. Flint also had great difficulties at school. Although he was bright and intelligent, he suffered from reading and spelling difficulties, which put major obstacles in his way. He also frequently disrupted lessons and was so persistently negative that he was expelled from school at the age of 15. He could hardly hope for support from his parents and looked for a job as a roofer. It’s hard to imagine that there are still houses in England that were roofed over by one of the pioneers of electronic music in the eighties, right?
2. Flint boxed and practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Anyone who has ever seen Keith Flint on stage will have no doubt that the singer of The Prodigy was a real bundle of energy. So it’s no wonder that the exercise on stage wasn’t enough for him and that he also pursued a few sporting hobbies. On the one hand, Flint was a passionate boxer; On the other hand, he dedicated himself to the martial art Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a mixture of the Japanese sports of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. The main thing is to bring the opponent to the ground and keep them under control. But that wasn’t it for Flint’s sporting hobbies. Another of his passions takes place on two really fast bikes – but we’ll get to that in a moment.
3. He played in a punk band called Flint alongside The Prodigy.
From a musical perspective, Keith Flint didn’t have enough with The Prodigy either, which is why he founded the punk rock group Flint around the turn of the millennium, together with guitarist Jim Davies from the industrial pioneers Pitchshifter. The band celebrated their live premiere at the Download Festival in 2003; Flint released their first single on May 19, 2003 Asteroids. With Aim 4 On July 14, 2003, the Brits released their second single, which will be particularly well known to anime fans in Germany: the number is the anime’s theme music here Hellsing about the vampire hunter of the same name. But the band Flint’s career remained short and frontman Keith Flint soon concentrated again on The Prodigy.
4. In 1995, The Prodigy and Keith Flint were the first major international music act to perform in Belgrade after the breakup of Yugoslavia.
When a number of wars of separation broke out after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the conflicts had Europe firmly in their grip. One conflict after another broke out, especially in what was then Yugoslavia, and there were bloody battles for years. Concerts? Unthinkable. If it was even possible for big bands and musicians to get into the war zone, most of them didn’t dare for understandable reasons. The Prodigy took the step. They knew full well that there was a large fan base for electronic music in Eastern Europe and wanted to reach their audience. That they performed in Serbia under the most difficult circumstances and recorded their mega hit there for the first time Breathe played live, the country will probably never forget them.
5. He owned a motorcycle racing team.
Keith Flint seems to have been a very fast guy in general, whether on stage or off. He not only appeared as an impulsive frontman, but also stepped on the accelerator. Flint had his own motorcycle racing team, the Traction Control team, with which he was able to win four races in the long-established Isle Of Man TT racing series in 2015 and 2016. (Incidentally, this is one of the most dangerous motorsport events the world, but only marginally.) Flint and his team also took part in the British Superbike Championship, which has been taking place since 1988. Unfortunately, not only the “Live fast” part applies to Flint, but also the “Die young” part. He took his own life at the age of 49.
