The Styrian Shines at Masters Debut While Dominic Thiem Faces Challenges

The Styrian remained confident at the start of the Masters tournament against Kei Nishikori. Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem continues to pose puzzles.

Sebastian Ofner has a successful debut at Masters 1,000 tournament in Miami given. Austria’s number one beat the former fourth in the world rankings in the first round on Thursday Kei Nishikori from Japan 6:3, 6:4.

He now faces the 20th-seeded Argentine for the first time on the ATP tour Francisco Cerundolo to do.

Ofner gave his 34-year-old opponent no chance after the break to make it 2-0 in the first set; it was only in the second round that Nishikori, who was equipped with a wild card, gained a better foothold in the game.

Ofner (ATP-40) was ultimately confident against the Japanese, who was playing on the tour for the first time since July of the previous year. With a break to make it 4:3, the 27-year-old made it to his seventh match win this year.

Dominic Thiem is still guessing

Things are going less well for Dominic Thiem. After his recent failures, he has for that Challenger tournament next week in Neapel cancelled. The Lower Austrian’s next appearance is expected to be at the ATP Tour 250 event in Estoril in the first week of April.

Thiem last went against his compatriot at the Challenger in Zadar Luke Neumayer with 2:6, 1:6 under. Before that, there was a first-round defeat against the Polish world number 295 in Szekesfehervar. Daniel Michalski.
