Montegranaro (Fermo), 27 March 2024 – Very serious episode what happened on Friday afternoon in the Ipsia gym in Senigallia during the match between Pallacanestro Senigallia and Pallacanestro Montegranaro Youth Sector, valid for the ninth and final day of the return of the Under 14 Elite championship. The incident took place a few minutes from the end when a Montegranaro player committed his fifth foul.
Going out from the playing field the Veregrense basketball player made an angry gesture and kicked the bench. At that point one of the two referees, an 18 year old from Fanolo he expelled, inviting him to leave the field. Annoyed by what happened visiting fan entered the field and struck the young referee with a slap. The coach of the visiting team and other managers immediately intervened to stop the attacker. The match director promptly returned to the locker room and after a discussion with the superiors suspended the match, which at that moment saw the home team clearly ahead.
The Sutor Montegranaro publishedon its social media channels, a message of apology for what happened: “We have become aware of a very serious incident that occurred during a match of one of our youth teams. We apologize first and foremost to the referee and to all those who were present. We are very sorry, without words. We want to openly condemn and distance ourselves from this behavior which is foreign to our values. We are evaluating how to manage the issue internally to protect our children.”
The story it could also have criminal implications, in the event that the affected referee were to file a complaint against the Veregrense fan, who would find himself liable for personal injuries. Meanwhile yesterday the sports judge decided to disqualify the Verengrense youth team’s pitch for five matches due to the invasion, committed by an “isolated individual with aggression and for injuries suffered by the referee who was attacked with a seven-day prognosis as certified by the emergency room report emergency services at the S.Croce hospital in Fano”. The first three matches of the pitch disqualification were then commuted to a financial penalty, while the further two matches will be played behind closed doors. The match was approved with the defeat of Montegranaro.
