It’s a fight from the first second, a struggle for the best grip. Two quick arm movements, one turn and with momentum Paul Stelzer throws his brother Julian onto the mat. The two twelve-year-olds from Bachern are among the best young judoka in Bavaria. Both have already achieved several triumphs for Sportfreunde Friedberg. The brothers are also successful at football. But they are not the only athletes in the family. They don’t like to fight against each other, except on the trampoline at home.

The gymnastics equipment has long since been repurposed at Stelzer. Paul and Julian practice their throws in the garden in Bachern. “It’s a lot of fun, you can practice it well on the trampoline because you fall softly,” explains Julian. Father Manuel has now gotten used to it. “We always have something going on. After all, we have four children who do judo, so the trampoline hasn’t been used in the way it was originally intended for a long time.” The older brother Ben is also a successful judoka and the little sister Emma also practices the sport. He now also carries it Dad the judo suit: “I saw what a great sport it was, and since all the children do it, I started it too,” said Manuel Stelzer.
