Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been banned for four years for failing a doping test, meaning the career of one of the most talented footballers ever could come to a tragic and tarnished end.

True, Pogba’s temperament may not be the most exemplary, but no one can doubt his talent. His talent has been clear since he was at the Le Havre academy, so it’s no surprise that Manchester United recruited him – with much controversy – when he was still 16 years old.

Ironically, he also left Old Trafford not on good terms. Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager at that time, was furious with Mino Raiola’s concocted maneuver, which made Pogba refuse to extend his contract at Old Trafford before making a free move to Juventus in 2012.

Fergie’s anger is not at all surprising, seeing how Pogba immediately transformed into one of the world’s best midfielders in Turin. So, when he agreed to return to Manchester United in 2016, he was greeted with great fanfare. The stage has also been set for Pogba to become a GOAT in the English Premier League.

Unfortunately, even though he won the World Cup with France in his second spell at Old Trafford, Pogba’s return to Manchester ended as one of the worst disasters in world transfer history. Despite a memorable month in Russia in 2018, he was never the same again at club level…
