The RFEF repudiates Rubiales and activates a forensic audit: “This institution is far above its leaders”

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has issued a harsh statement after learning of the Prosecutor’s request for two years and six months in prison for Luis Rubiales for the non-consensual kiss of Jenni Hermoso. “All responsibilities that may arise from irregular conduct and decisions will be resolved”begins a statement announcing that the Federation will raise the implementation of a forensic audit to the management committee.

With this procedure, the RFEF will analyze “any type of contract that may be under suspicion due to the actions of its former president Luis Rubiales.” Likewise, the organization wants to show its total disassociation with the irregular conduct and actions of the former president, on which other causes weigh, such as those that focus the investigation of Operation Brodyfocused on irregular contracts signed by the Federation under its mandate.

Furthermore, in an order consulted by this newspaper, the judge has also ordered the lifting of the secrecy of the separate piece that investigates the conditions under which the renovation works at the La Cartuja stadium were granted.

This institutional crisis has led to the study, by FIFA, of a possible intervention by the RFEF, according to ‘El País’, after conversations held with the Higher Sports Council chaired by José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes. Federal sources admit thatThe entity has had contacts with the organization chaired by Gianni Infantino for weeks..

Rocha: “We must separate the institution from criminal conduct”

In its conduct, the Federation considers itself “a fundamental institution, the base of Spanish football, home of the national teams and integrated by professionals who carry out their work efficiently and who jointly watch over the progress of this sport with great responsibility and effort.

Therefore, the RFEF does not want to be “associated with particular conduct, especially those who, always allegedly, have engaged in execrable, if not illegal, conduct.” And he puts it in the mouth of Pedro Rocha, president of the Federation’s management, that considers “it is essential to separate and disassociate the institution from allegedly criminal conduct”also ensuring that “any existing responsibility will be resolved to the end.”

The Federation defends that during the last six months it has directed all its efforts to achieve stabilization and close the crisis generated, “working to make football talk again”. But it does not hide that the new front opened with the Super Cup case and the request of the Prosecutor’s Office arrive at a crucial moment, months before a Euro Cup, an Olympic Games and, above all, the presentation of the 2030 World Cup bid.

“Therefore, the stability of this institution is guaranteed to FIFA, UEFA, the CSD and all fans. Spanish football is much more than its former presidents or leaders and this is how it wants to be conveyed to public opinion”, concludes the statement from the Spanish Federation.
