The Prosecutor’s Office demands to eliminate Dani Alves’ bail

One million euros. That is the amount that the Barcelona Court established as bail for Dani Alves, who could be released provisionally until his sentence of four and a half years in prison for rape is ratified. The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Barcelona has appealed the decision, explaining in a statement that they have filed an appeal against the resolution agreeing to modify the precautionary measure of provisional detention for Alves if he pays said bail.

The appeal is based on considering that the reasons why the footballer’s provisional detention was adopted a year ago are maintained, “even with greater intensity in view of the fact that Alves has been convicted as the perpetrator of a crime of sexual assault against sentence of 4 years and 6 months in prison, even more so taking into account the appeals filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution and the penological horizon that the defendant faces is up to 12 years in prison.”

For this reason, they consider that the provisional prison situation should be extended up to half of the sentence imposed, that is, 2 years and 3 months.

“There is a high risk of flight, which we understand cannot be mitigated with the alternative measures established in the appealed case, in view of Alves’ lack of roots in our country, and the roots that do exist with his country of origin – Brazil. -, a country that does not extradite nationals in crimes of sexual assault, and given its high economic capacity as well as that of its environment, which means that the risk of flight is not mitigated by the deposit of bail,” they highlight.

The footballer will spend the weekend in prison for not having posted bail of one million euros this Friday before 3 p.m., with one hour more margin than usual.

The Barcelona Court had accepted, at the request of Alves’s defense, to extend until 3 p.m. the deadline for depositing bail, which normally ends at 2 p.m., when the court secretariat closes.
