The Pink Party: Germany’s New Away Jersey Steals the Show in Win Against Holland

The first party in pink! The premiere of the new away jersey was a complete success in the 2-1 win against Holland. Up to 11.96 million viewers (record for RTL international matches since 2019) celebrated. Striking: Many fans wore the fashion color in the stands.

Players like it too! Florian Wirtz (20): “I think it’s very cool!”

Thomas Müller (34): “Of course I first made my eyes, but I can already do something with these colors.”

National coach Julian Nagelsmann (36): “I think it’s good that it’s not always the same. That also has a psychological effect on the opponent.” Friend Lena Wurzenberger also cheered in pink in the stands.

BILD Sport vice-president Walter M. Straten demands from WELT TV: Make pink the European Championship jersey (see video)!

Is that even possible?

Theoretically yes. Each team must enter one main jersey. For Germany it will – as of now – be the usual black and white combination. But how the teams actually line up is decided by those responsible for the respective associations together with UEFA. The “home team” has preferential rights.

We are the “home team” against Scotland (June 14th in Munich) and Hungary (June 19th in Stuttgart).

► Things get difficult for the Scots because their standard jersey is dark blue and their alternate jersey is turquoise blue. Too similar to pink.

► Things could get hot against Hungary! Hungary’s away jersey is white. Germany could therefore play in the away shirt, despite being announced as the home team.

► We are the “guest team” against our last group opponent Switzerland (June 23rd in Frankfurt). If the DFB and UEFA agree with the Swiss that they will compete in white, the way for pink would be clear…

Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen told BILD: “The new away jersey is still selling better than ever before. We can also see above-average demand for both jerseys after the last two international matches.”
