The Oldest Bakery in Romont Keeps it in the Family for 70 Years

It was 1951, when Jean Dubey created his own bakery. The craftsman operated it for thirty years, before his son Michel took over. Three years after taking office, he asked one of his best friends to join forces. “I asked him to be my best man at my wedding, and in the process, he asked me if I agreed to work with him,” says Joël Grandjean. “At the age of ten, we started judo together. As we got along well to fight, we said to ourselves that we would get along to work together,” adds Michel Dubey.

The decision was made forty years ago, and the collaboration has lasted until now. In total, the company has been in existence for seventy years, making it the oldest bakery in Romont still in operation. “The story is quite unique, especially since at the time, people said that an association never lasted long,” explains Joël Grandjean. However, here we are in 2024 and commerce is still present. “Between us, everything was quite linked and natural,” declares his friend.

Time to take over

However, every good thing must come to an end. While Michel is already enjoying his retirement, his friend is preparing to do the same. However, the bakery will continue to operate. Indeed, David Grandjean, son of Joël, will become the new boss. “I have always been involved in this with my parents. I am proud to keep the family business going, especially since it is a logical continuation of my professional career,” replies the main person concerned. Although the bakery will now be run by a Grandjean, the name of the business will remain unchanged.
