The Next Major Move: Philadelphia Eagles Expected to Trade Haason Reddick

After restructuring Josh Sweat’s contract, the next major move for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason will likely involve Haason Reddick.

Appearing on SportsCenter on Saturday morning, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the expectation around the NFL is Reddick will eventually be traded, with the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons cited as potential landing spots:

“The expectation leaguewide is that he is moved at some point. The Eagles went and spent on Bryce Huff, they re-signed Josh Sweat, so they have their two pass rushers. Reddick appears to be the odd man out. He does want a new deal, but this is a premier guy that should have value. He wants a new contract, plus the draft capital that it’s going to take to get him. Arizona could be a team to watch because Jonathan Gannon was with him two years ago in Philly. They had good production together. Arizona needs pass rushers. Atlanta to an extent, so there should be teams in the mix.”

There was some surprise on Super Bowl Sunday when NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Eagles gave Reddick’s camp permission to seek a trade.

Reddick later stated he never requested a trade and would like to sign an extension with Philadelphia, but he also understands the business side of things.

Along with questions about Reddick’s future in Philadelphia, there were also rumblings Josh Sweat might be on the trade block. The Eagles ultimately were able to restructure Sweat’s deal last week to keep him on the roster in 2024.

Both the Cardinals and Falcons make sense as a landing spot for Reddick if he does get traded. Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon was Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator for Reddick’s first season with the club in 2022.

The Cardinals had the third-fewest sacks in the NFL last season (33) and had the fifth-worst pass-rush win rate, per ESPN.com. They have two first-round draft picks this year at No. 4 and 27 overall.

Given Reddick’s age and contract status, it seems unlikely it would cost a first-round selection to acquire him from the Eagles. He spent the first four years of his NFL career in Arizona before signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers after the 2020 season.

The Falcons tied for 21st in sacks last year (42) and ranked last in ESPN’s pass-rush win rate. They haven’t had an individual player record at least 10 sacks in a season since Vic Beasley in 2016 (15.5).

Reddick is entering the final season of his three-year, $45 million contract signed in March 2022. He is owed $14.25 million in base salary with a $21.8 million cap hit. The 29-year-old has recorded at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.
