The Indonesian National Team Naturalization Project is Threatened with Falling Apart

Jakarta – PSSI is intensively carrying out a naturalization project in the Indonesian National Team. Coach Shin Tae-yong even flew to the Netherlands, who reportedly wanted to carry out direct monitoring.

When Shin Tae-yong was in the Land of Windmills, he received bad news. Because there are five players of Indonesian descent who are included in the Netherlands U-21 squad coached by Michael Reiziger.

The Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) announced that 31 names were included in the squad prepared to appear in the EURO U-21 Qualifications and trial matches.

Netherlands U-21 will have two matches this month. Starting from a friendly with Norway U-21 on March 22 2024, and three days later facing Moldova U-21 in the EURO U-21 Qualification.

So who are the five players of Indonesian descent who are included in Reiziger’s squad? The first is Ryan Flamengo who has a career at FC Utrecht.

Milion Manhoef, who studied at Stoke City, is also included in the squad. Next there is Ian Maatsen, who is currently on loan from Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund.

Dani van den Heuvel, who is at Leeds United, was also part of the Netherlands U-21 on this occasion. And the last one is player Neraysho Kasanwirjo from the SK Rapid Vienna club.

Even though they are included in the Dutch U-21 squad, it is possible that PSSI will naturalize the players. Because FIFA rules still open up the opportunity for them to become Indonesian national team players.

Under FIFA rules, those who have just played with an age group team can still move countries. What is prohibited is having played more than three competitive matches and being over 21 years old.
