The home team wins the Latvian table hockey championship in Inčukaln

The 24th Latvian table hockey championship in the “Open” class was held at the Inčukalna Sports Center. In the competition of 90 participants, the home team Rainers Kalniņas managed to defend the champion title won for the last three years, who in the final convincingly defeated the most titled Latvian table hockey player Edgars Caicas from the children and youth center “Laimīte” with 4:0.

The Latvian championship traditionally takes place in three rounds. Round-robin tournaments are played in the first and second rounds, and play-offs are held in the third round. Nine representatives of Inčukalna Galda Hockey Club managed to get into the 1st league, but at the end of the league round tournament, four Inčukalns qualified for the playoffs, which the “play-off” net brought together already in the round of 16, according to the information of Sigulda region municipality.

Champion Rainers Kalniņš defeated Jānis Kalnevica in the series with 4:0, with whom he played a week before in the final of the Inčukalns championship (36 participants participated). On the other hand, Toms Baumanis and Didzis Ziemelis met in another duel. Last year’s World Junior Championship finalist Toms Baumanis ended the series with 4:2. In the quarter-finals, Tom recognized the superiority of the bronze medalist Rudolph Kamzol with 1:4.

Rainers allowed himself to lose only one game until the final, but in the final he convincingly defeated Latvia’s most titled table hockey player Edgars Caica with 4:0. Toms Baumanis won the respectable 6th place in the end.

At the parallel 5th stage of the Latvian Amateur League, the new generation of the Inčukalna Table Hockey Club won four awards. Ilze ķirse (1st place) and Anete Keita Ziļicka (2nd place) won the double victory in the women’s competition, while in the junior U13 competition, 3rd place went to Darta Vesele. Another medal for Ilze ķirse – 3rd place in the junior competition.

The Latvian championship in the “Open” class, or general competition, in which players of all ages and genders can participate, is held once a year. It is the second most important tournament after the “Riga Cup” stage of the World Tour organized by the Latvian Table Hockey Federation.
