Plauen/Dresden – The game between the second-placed teams: In the quarter-finals of the state cup, upper division team VFC Plauen and third division team Dynamo Dresden meet on Sunday. The Vogtlandstadion is already sold out with 4,999 spectators. Even if there are two classes between the two, this pairing has a tradition.

Plauen and Dresden have dueled twelve times in the Oberliga and Regionalliga, and now there is the sixth duel in the State Cup.
The pairing was like this three times in a final. In 2003, Dynamo won 3-2 in the Vogtlandstadion. A year later, the locals turned the tables and won 1-0.
This pairing occurred a third time in the 2009 final, when the second SGD representation made it to the final, surprisingly defeating VFC, who were playing one league higher, 2-1 in Leipzig.

The teams faced each other for the penultimate time in 2010, this time in the second round. It was 2:2 after 120 minutes, Dresden won 6:5 after a penalty shootout.
The last meeting was in November 2022, in the previous season Dresden won 7-3 in Vogtland in the third round.

But the strangest game was for points in the top league at the time. It was March 28, 2002, again in Plauen.
The intense game ended in a 0-0 draw. Then it happened: The then VFC keeper Thomas Metzner wanted to easily take a rather harmless shot.
But the ball hit a lump of earth just in front of him, bounced back completely in the opposite direction and right at the feet of Thomas Neubert, who scored the 1-0 win. The molehill!
