The Free Throw Disparity: A Major Factor in the Lakers’ Victory Over Pacers

Seeing your team allow 150 points should be a coach’s first concern, but the Indiana Pacers of Rick Carlisle in Los Angeles against the Lakers they managed to score 145 – and so even a detail can make the difference between a victory and a defeat. As the number of free throwsfor example: “A differential of +27 between the free throws attempted by them (43) and those attempted by us (16) it is a first fact. And then fouls: the Lakers were called 17 fewer than us“, are the words of the Indiana coach in the press conference. Which once again underlines a fact that has already been talked about in NBA circles (and beyond) for a long time: thehuge positive balance on the line for LeBron James’ team compared to the opponents. After the victory over the Pacers, in fact, the Lakers have shot 420 more free throws than their opponents this year. To give you an idea: the Bucks – who are in second place in this ranking – have hit the line 222 more times than the teams they have faced so far. And this is nothing new: last year the yellow and purple had already been, by far, the team with the greatest differential between attempted free throws and conceded free throws, with a notable +476. “I think my guys fought with pride tonight. But there are obstacles that are impossible to overcome. I won’t say anything else”, the words of an annoyed Carlisle after the defeat of his Pacers.
