Manuel Second Arancibia Trivik (Iquique, May 25, 1908-March 27, 1987)[3] was a Chilean footballer who acted as a striker. He spent his professional football career at Badminton, Colo-Colo – where he won the undefeated championship in 1937 – and Green Cross.[1]In addition, he was international with the Chilean team in the South Americans of 1937, 1941 and 1942.[2]

Trajectory[editar]

He started playing soccer in his native Iquique. He joined several amateur teams in the city, and in 1935 he went to Santiago as a forward for San Enrique, which won a championship undefeated. That same year he should have played professionally for a team in the capital, but a long dispute over the player’s rights between Badminton and Colo-Colo delayed his arrival and gave him his nickname of Disputed.[1] Badminton won the arm wrestling match for the Iquiqueño, and Arancibia debuted with the Aurinegro team in 1936. In those years Badminton had among its ranks several players from Iquique, including Carlos Atlagic and Teodosio Aguirre.[1]

In 1937, together with his brother Carlos Arancibia, he became part of Colo-Colo. That year the white club won the first national title in its history, undefeated, and Manuel formed up front along with Roberto Luco, Enrique Sorrel, Arturo Carmona and Tomás Rojas.[1][3]

In 1940, Discutado began wearing the Green Cross shirt. He was in the Green Cross store until 1943, when he traveled to Antofagasta to settle in that city. In the northern Chilean city he continued his football career as an amateur, and was a member of the local team until 1950.[1]

Chilean national team[editar]

Manuel Arancibia played six international matches for Chile between 1937 and 1942, in which he scored three goals. The forward debuted in the 1937 South American Championship in Buenos Aires in the 3-0 victory against Uruguay. He scored the second goal of the game, in what was the first Chilean victory in history against the Uruguayans.[1]Arancibia scored another goal in the 2-3 defeat to Paraguay.[2]

In the 1941 South American Championship in Santiago, Arancibia performed in a match. It was in the 5-0 victory against Ecuador, in which he scored the partial 3-0. In the 1942 South American Championship in Montevideo, Arancibia participated in the first matches, which were the 1-6 defeats against Uruguay and Brazil, in what was his last international match.[2]
