The Fate of Loaned Striker André Silva: No Return to Leipzig

The fate of all loan players also befalls him: there is no way back to Leipzig for striker André Silva (28).

It’s been since last summer Portuguese Loaned to Real Sociedad San Sebastian for a season. And now it finally seems to be gaining momentum. In the new year he was increasingly in the starting line-up and recently scored twice in the league (Sevilla, Granada).

According to BILD information, the Spaniards would also sign him permanently in the summer – but not for the contractually agreed purchase option of 15 million euros. Instead, the first division club wants to reduce the price; the pain threshold should be a maximum of 10 million euros. San Sebastian has not yet contacted RB. Which shouldn’t be unusual, however. Spaniards, it is said, should always start negotiations relatively late. And we just have to see what Silva can deliver by the end of the season.

So far it’s rather disappointing! The national striker (19 goals in 53 international matches) had problems getting going for a long time. He was also injured for a while. He missed the start of the season because of the serious muscle injury in his thigh that he brought with him from Leipzig. Calf problems arose later. Silva only played four of 18 possible league games in the first half of the season.

It’s a crazy fall from grace for a former Bundesliga top star who scored a strong 28 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2020/21 season. And then moved to Leipzig in the summer for 23 million euros. According to Transfermarkt.de, he was worth 45 million euros at the time, but his current market value is only 7.5 million euros. A transfer that didn’t work out at all from RB’s perspective. Silva didn’t fit in with Leipzig in terms of play.

Now all that remains is to wish that the professional with impeccable character finds long-term happiness in Spain!
