The Case of Juan Soto: Potential Record-Breaking Contract Looms for 2025 Free Agent

There are conflicting opinions surrounding the case of Juan Soto, who will become a free agent in 2025 and is said to sign one of the most important contracts in MLB history. The player could be in his only season with the New York Yankees in 2024.

According to a Baseball America projection, the Dominican patrolman would earn more than $700 million in 2025 – $701 million, to be exact -, which would put him in the fight with Shohei Ohtani for the most important contract in the league. However, others predict that he will not reach $500 million.

The left-handed slugger is represented by Scott Boras and won’t accept anything below the asking price. At least, historically, that’s how the respected agent has worked in his MLB career.

Ohtani’s contract is worth $700 million over 10 seasons, but Soto’s could be for more seasons, since he is only 25 years old and is one of the best hitters in all of Major League Baseball. He has just won the Silver Slugger in 2023.

Soto hit 35 home runs and drove in 109 runs with the Padres last year and now with the New York team and at Yankee Stadium those numbers are expected to increase, since it is a scenario that favors left-handed hitters.
