The Japanese, who missed a large part of the season due to injury, showed that they were back with a high-level program rewarded with 73.53 points.
The fight for the podium promises to be close since three other couples are just behind by less than a point. The provisional third place is occupied by the Italians Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii (72.88 pts), who are a hair ahead of the Germans Hase/Volodin (72.10 pts) and the Georgians Metelkina/Berulava (72.02 pts) .
For the third year in a row, the Worlds are taking place without the Russians, who obtained two medals out of three in this category at the last Olympic Games.
