Second direct match between the two with the Tuscan who won 2-1 on the Queen’s grass in 2023. The winner of the match will find in the round of 16 one between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and the French Gael Monfils.
Musetti, a twenty-two year old from Carrara, comes to this event after beating the Russian Safiullin 2-0 following the bye which allowed him to avoid taking the field in the first round. The talented Italian is looking for the best in a complicated season window on outdoor hard courts which has brought him the quarter-finals in Adelaide as his best result. The Italian has never won two matches in a row yet and he will try this evening against the powerful American.
For his part, Shelton, a twenty-two year old from Gainesville (Florida, United States), also benefited from the bye before comfortably overtaking the young Spaniard Landaluse on his debut. At the start of 2024, the American left-hander reached the semi-finals in Auckland and Dallas, the quarter-finals in Acapulco and the round of 16 in Indian Wells, a tournament in which he was defeated in two sets by Jannik Sinner.
The challenge between Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton will be the fifth match starting from 4.00 pm on the Butch Bucholz Arena at the end of the WTA challenge between the Romanian Sorana Cirstea and the American Danielle Collins.
