The 20th Edition of the Ciudad de Alaior Base Basketball Tournament Brings Together Top Youth Teams from Around the World

CB Jovent de Alaior presents the 20th edition of the Ciudad de Alaior Base Basketball Tournament for the child and cadet categories (male and female) which will take place from March 27 to 30 and will be held in Alaior, Maó, Sant Lluís, Es Migjorn and Es Mercadal. Coinciding with the Easter holidays, in this edition 292 matches will be played over the four days. A concentration of basketball matches never before held on the island with the participation of 93 teams (77 of which travel from outside Menorca). A total of 26 clubs come from Mallorca, Catalunya, Valencia and Menorca.

Joventud de Badalona, ​​Valencia Basket, Básquet Manacor, El Círcol, CB Granollers, CB Vic, CE Diagonal Mar and Osona Femení stand out as reference clubs. Also the Shizuoka Gymrats from Japan, which already participated in last year’s tournament, did not want to miss the appointment. A crowd of more than 2,500 people, including players, coaches and supporters, will live the Torneo Ciudad de Alaior.

Figures that paralyze the island and that cause, for example, that there are no free buses during Holy Week since all the companies on the island are contracted by the organization with a total of 20 coaches.

800 people travel by boat from Barcelona to the island and during the journey a telematic meeting will be held that they can follow on the boat with the rest of the clubs in Menorca and Mallorca. Once again, the refereeing will be carried out by the Balearic Islands Basketball Federation and the College of Referees of the Catalan Basketball Federation, who will carry out a stage during these days with the displacement of 56 referees and 20 tables.

The organization of this tournament is a reality thanks to the sponsorship of the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation and the Alaior City Council; the collaboration of the Municipal Sports Service of the Alaior City Council, the Menorca Island Delegation of the Balearic Islands Basketball Federation, the Catalan Basketball Federation and local sponsors and companies.

All matches can be followed live through the digital platform of the Balearic Islands Basketball Federation. One of the new features this year will be the live broadcast of the tournament finals through the club’s website (cbjovent.com) and which will be held on Saturday the 30th on the center court of the Alaior Municipal Sports Center. The closing and presentation of trophies will take place on the same day starting at 6:30 p.m.
