The European Gymnastics Federation has announced that the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships will not be held in Israel, as initially planned, “due to the current situation” in the country.
Israel has been involved for months in a conflict with the radical Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza Strip: its armed forces invaded and bombed much of the territory, where they killed more than 30 thousand people, in response to the October 7 attack in which Hamas militants had killed more than 1,200 Israelis and taken nearly 250 hostage.
The Federation said other member countries have until April 23 to submit an alternative bid to host the 2025 championships, and that Israel will be able to submit its bid for subsequent editions.
