Despite his return of wrist problems, Dominic Thiem has big plans for the coming weeks and presented an intensive plan for the clay court season on Thursday. It starts on Easter Monday in Estoril, and two weeks later the Lower Austrian has a wildcard for Munich. But he also has a lot on his calendar in between and after.

This is what the world number 90 is planning. also appearances at the 1000cc tournaments in Monte Carlo (April 7th), Madrid (April 24th) and Rome (May 8th). After the tournament at the Foro Italico, Thiem has the French Open in Paris on his schedule.

On Wednesday, the Lower Austrian gave a reason for canceling the planned start at the Challenger this week in Naples and probably also for the two defeats before that, when he lost at the Challenger in Zadar against his compatriot Lukas Neumayer and before that in Szekesfehervar against the Polish world number 295 . Daniel Michalski had lost cleanly in each case.

Intensive training had consequences

Thiem, who has been training with his father Wolfgang again since February, said that he had intensified his training sessions again – with consequences. “We spent a lot of hours on the pitch and made a lot of shots. Unfortunately, my wrist gave out again before the Challenger in Hungary. These ‘clicks’ in the wrist started to happen again, like when I was injured. The strange feeling coupled with slight pain came back,” said Thiem.

But now he is on the road to recovery. In Estoril he wants to know it again at the start of an intensive European clay court season. He is currently number 90 in the ATP rankings, and his stated goal for this season is to return to the top 50.
