Tennis Prolongs Life: Scientific Studies Show Players Live 9.7 Years Longer

Those who play tennis have a life expectancy of 9.7 years longer than those who are sedentary: therefore tennis prolongs life. And it would do it much more than other more famous and perhaps even widespread sports.

This is the data that emerges from two scientific studies produced by Copenaghen City Heart Study e il Sidney Medical School Studywho over the years have analyzed the relationship between quality of life and sports practice.

The data from the publications were taken during a conference at Casa Tennis organized by Fit, to Italian Tennis Federation and Tennis & Friends – Health and Sport, on the occasion of the Nitto ATP Finals which took place in Turin.

Tennis extends life, Science says

According to what was reported by Danish researchers from the Copenhagen City Heart Study, tennis prolongs life. The scholars analyzed the behavior of over 20 thousand people (over a time horizon of 25 years), men and women aged between 20 and 90.

And it has emerged that physical activity and the social relationships implicit in playing tennis are the best for living healthy for a long time.

Australian colleagues assessed that tennis has even greater beneficial effects than football and swimming and cycling and is a sporting practice that helps prevent coronary heart disease and stroke.

Longevity and tennis: helps you age better

Tennis leads to an increase in life expectancy of 9.7 years (compared to a sedentary person), almost 5 years longer than other sports: badminton +6.2, football +6.7, cycling +3.7, swimming +3.4, jogging +3.2.

“There are false beliefs, for example that tennis is an asymmetrical sport and that it hurts. It is a great help to be able to break down these false beliefs with scientific data and state how much sport, and tennis in particular, have extraordinary effects on the person from a health point of view. Even during the pandemic, tennis was consecrated as the safest sport to play in very difficult times”, the words of Angelo Binaghi, president of Fit.
