Tennis: loss of consciousness, paralysis… Arthur Cazeaux victim of severe dehydration in Miami

The image sent shivers down my spine. During qualifying for the Masters 1000 in Miami this Monday against his compatriot Harold Mayot, the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux suddenly collapsed on the court during the 3rd set after more than 2 hours of play in a temperature of around 30 degrees and a rate humidity of 70%. After remaining on the court for several seconds, the 21-year-old tennis player was evacuated on a wheelchair, barely conscious, to a hospital in Miami to undergo examinations and spend the night under observation.

“He gave us a big scare,” explained Stéphane Huet, his trainer, to the Team. He still suffered a slight illness with loss of consciousness and paralysis. It wasn’t something trivial. He then had severe generalized cramps. It was a short night but he is much better this morning, he was able to get up and go to the bathroom with his walker. Everything is fine but you need to know the circumstances of this discomfort in order to know what exactly happened. For now, he is resting because he is extremely tired. »

This Tuesday, the 74th player in the world, 8th finalist at the last Australian Open, was finally authorized to leave the hospital. Doctors diagnosed severe dehydration to explain the reasons for his discomfort.
