Tennis Drama: Alexander Zverev Advances as Opponent Loses Temper

Alexander Zverev reached the round of 16 at the tennis tournament in Indian Wells. His third round opponent Tallon Griekspoor couldn’t really handle the defeat well. His racket had to believe it after the first set.

Emotions couldn’t have been further apart when Alexander Zverev won the tiebreaker in the third-round match of the prestigious ATP tournament in Indian Wells, California. After a long rally, his opponent Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands played the ball out of bounds. While Zverev shouted his joy, Griekspoor completely freaked out.

The 27-year-old slammed his racket onto the court with full force eight times before throwing what was left towards the bench in frustration. For this, Griekspoor received boos from the audience.

But that wasn’t the end of the matter: Since the players changed sides for the second set, the court first had to be cleaned of the many small remains of the broken racket. Zverev himself lent a hand by dragging a towel across the court with his foot.

And Griekspoor? The person responsible had now calmed down, but did not want to help his opponent. He waited on the other side of the net for the game to resume.

After 7:6 (9:7) in the first set, Griekspoor had no chance in the second against Zverev, who prevailed 6:3. At the Masters in the USA he will now face Australian Alex De Minaur, against whom he lost 7:5, 3:6, 4:6 in the semi-finals of the United Cup at the beginning of January.

Zverev recently failed in the first round in Acapulco against compatriot Daniel Altmaier. In Indian Wells he started the tournament successfully with a second round win against Christopher O’Connell.
