The Russian objected to the automatic penalty and was proven right. As the ATP announced, the usual penalties for Rublew in the event of a disqualification were disproportionate. The 26-year-old only has to pay the fine of $36,400.

Rublew disqualified after insulting the referee

In the semi-final against Kazakh Alexander Bublik, when the score was 5:6 in the third set, Rublev freaked out and shouted in the face of a linesman from a short distance. According to another linesman who speaks Russian, Rublev insulted the official. As a result, Rublev was disqualified.

Thanks to the 200 points that Rublev receives for his semi-final participation, he retains his fifth place in the world rankings, ahead of the German number one, Alexander Zverev.
