The Temple-sur-Lot Base has invested 12 million euros in its structure modernization project. At the time the project was put into orbit, obviously, Paris 2024 was in the crosshairs. The new infrastructure – a building with two swimming pools and accommodation, and a sports hall – were delivered in the second half of 2022. The accommodation capacity increased from 280 to 350 beds (including 56 PRM). Since then, sports courses have multiplied, taking advantage of the Olympic momentum but above all the quality of the Lot-et-Garonnaise facilities.

Finland, Denmark, Canada, Algeria…

The boss of La Base 2k24, Bruno Blucheau, sees the first results of this long-term work emerging. The site was known above all for its body of water, it was necessary to show the capacity to diversify. In addition to the national and international rowing and canoe-kayak teams, those for judo, basketball and disabled sports training have been added. Athletes from – and to come – from England, Finland, Denmark but also from Canada and Algeria. “The uniqueness of the place is very pleasing,” reports Bruno Blucheau, who is still in contact with other training groups for the coming weeks. A parameter that was not necessarily a priority at the start of the project, ease of access for people with mobility proves to be a winner. “We put our suitcases down, and everything next to them. This is even more confirmed for disabled people, when they have heavy logistics with armchairs, etc.”

The upper echelons of the French Rowing Federation were not mistaken either. Shareholder of the Base and investors for the renovation work, it is at the Temple that they chose to organize their general meeting. The opportunity to see the dynamism of the place. “It’s recognition” rejoices Bruno Blucheau. If the calendar is established until this Olympic and Paralympic summer, the boss of the Base is already preparing for the aftermath. “History is far from being written, tomorrow’s activity must materialize. We are responding to a need, and it is the teams who speak about it best.” Word of mouth must have its effect. Some teams are already talking about preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Games and their desire to return to the banks of the Lot. The Temple Base intends to be there for each Olympiad.
