Taxpayers prefer to clarify tax doubts by cell phone – El Sol de México

Mexicans who pay taxes prefer to use text messages to clarify their doubts about their tax situation, according to an annual report from the SAT. The treasury served 11.3 million taxpayers through different remote channels, 34 percent via SMS messages.

Luis Carlos Figueroa, president of the National Commission of Trustees of the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants (IMCP), considers that the SAT has improved the communication strategy with taxpayers so that they are aware of their tax situation, which has been reflected in greater tax collection.

He explained that the Tax Mailbox constantly reminds taxpayers that they must submit their annual returns or pay their debts.

“The Tax Mailbox sends emails or messages to the cell phone to remind payments or deadlines for paying taxes, this allows taxpayers to be more aware and ask their questions through these channels.”

Figueroa pointed out that although the SAT has more innovative tools such as Artificial Intelligence and mobile applications, there are still limitations and flaws in their use.

“Some taxpayers have experienced difficulties using tools due to technical failures or operational problems, however, we hope that in the future they will become more accessible and efficient to make tax procedures even easier,” he added.

Other tools that the SAT has promoted for paying taxes is the Invoice SAT Móvil application, where users have greater control of their expenses and income, which reached 197 thousand downloads in 2023, according to the administrative body. There is also the SAT ID, which allows taxpayers to generate or renew their passwords, request the sending of the Certificate of Tax Situation with Tax Identification Card (CIF) and renew the e-signature.

According to Figueroa, of the 600 tax procedures that can be carried out, about half can already be done digitally with the tools provided by the SAT. In all of 2023, 5.9 million electronic signatures were generated, of which 3.3 million correspond to first-time procedures.

REDUCES PHYSICAL ATTENTION

Although in 2023, the SAT served 17 million taxpayers physically, it meant an annual reduction of 14.2 percent, indicates its tax report.

The largest number of services corresponded to the e-signature process for individuals and legal entities, with around 3.1 million procedures; while the registration of the RFC was 2.1 million procedures nationwide.

“Nowadays a person can schedule an appointment in a virtual office to carry out various procedures, such as generating passwords, changing addresses and submitting declarations virtually, something that helps improve accessibility, efficiency and monitoring of procedures,” commented Figueroa. .
