Most recently, Iga Swiatek reached the quarterfinals a minimum of 10 times in a row at WTA 1000 tournaments. This series came to an abrupt end in Miami. The world number 1 from Poland lost 4:6, 2:6 to Yekaterina Alexandrowa (RUS/WTA 16) in just 84 minutes.
So Swiatek, who won the tournament in Indian Wells a week ago, won’t have the “Sunshine Double”. The disappointment of this should be limited for the three-time French Open winner. Swiatek is now switching to her favorite surface, sand.
Alcaraz gives Monfils no chance
The “Sunshine Double” is still possible for men. Indian Wells champion Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 2) is currently making a strong impression in Miami, and Gaël Monfils (ATP 47) also experienced this. The Spaniard made short work of the Frenchman and won 6:2, 6:4 in 75 minutes. In the round of 16, Alcaraz will face Lorenzo Musetti (ITA/ATP 24) on Tuesday.
