Swiatek Dominates Indian Wells to Win Second Title in California Desert

Swiatek, a four-time Grand Slam winner, won her second title in the Californian desert (after 2022, already against Sakkari) without losing a single set in six matches.

Patron of world tennis for two years, Swiatek did not tremble during the final. She barely saw Sakkari erase a break behind in the first set, before accelerating to pocket it 6-4, then humiliating her opponent, limited to 5 points in the second set.

“I don’t know what to do,” Maria Sakkari lamented during the meeting to her coach, according to an exchange captured by the broadcaster’s microphones.

At 22, Swiatek wins a 19th trophy, the 8th at WTA 1000 level, the second this year after Doha in February. She has only experienced one real odd this season with a surprise elimination in the 3rd round of the Australian Open by the Czech Linda Noskova, whom she took care to crush in the 3rd round at Indian Wells (6- 4, 6-0).

The Pole, world number one since November after a short interlude from Aryna Sabalenka, consolidates her place on the throne with this trophy and will be more than 2,500 points ahead of the Belarusian on Monday.

“You are an incredible player, a very good person, you deserve the best,” greeted Sakkari, world No. 9, who regained confidence with this final after recently changing coaches.
