Swarm of Bees Halts Indian Wells Quarter-Final Match, Alcaraz Dominates Zverev in Return

In the quarter-finals in Indian Wells there was an interruption that has never happened before in tennis. A swarm of bees ensured that the game between Carlos Alcaraz and Alex Zverev could not continue shortly after the match began. It took almost two hours before a beekeeper brought the bee invasion under control and the players could return to center court. The Spaniard then made short work of his German challenger and outclassed the world number six 6:3, 6:1.

The courageous beekeeper was celebrated by the fans and was asked several times for a selfie by fans in the stands.

In the semi-finals there will be an early final, as Alcaraz will now face Jannik Sinner. The Italian gave the Czech whiz kid Jiri Lehecka no chance at 6:3, 6:3 and celebrated his 19th win in a row. The second semi-final will be contested by Tommy Paul (6:2, 1:6, 6:3 against Caspar Ruud) and Daniil Medvedev (7:5, 6:4 over Holger Runde). There was a controversy during Medvedev’s game, as the Russian felt he had been intentionally shot at a ball from the Dane.

For the women, the semifinals are Iga Swiatek against Marta Kostyuk and Coco Gauff against Maria Sakkari.
