Struggling Anderlecht Faces Infrastructural Woes for RSCA Futures Home Games

Anderlecht is bothered by an infrastructural problem. The RSCA Futures play their home games at the King Baudouin Stadium, but there is hardly any atmosphere there. A problem that has been mentioned several times, but for which no solution can be found.

It is extremely important for Anderlecht that the RSCA Futures play in the Challenger Pro League. The young talents learn at an early age what it is like to play against adults. After all, the intention is still to allow great talents to progress as quickly as possible.

This season it was already predicted that they would have to fight against relegation, but it soon became clear that they were stronger than everyone had thought. Four games before the end, they are almost certain of retention with a nine-point lead over the penultimate.

No other stadium to be found

But the home games are a problem. A few hundred fans show up for the Futures’ home games. And you hardly see them in a stadium of 50,000 seats. The atmosphere during the match is sub-zero, which is mainly to the advantage of the opponents.

The Futures achieved just 11 of their 32 points at home. We looked for a solution in the area, but there is none. The promises used to play on the Dender field, but that field does not meet the requirements for professional football.

“We have examined all options, looked at all stadiums in the area,” sighed Jesper Fredberg. “The strict licensing conditions make it impossible to play elsewhere. Heysel is the only solution for the time being.”

Not a completely new turf

And what about our own Lotto Park? Given the calendar, that is not an option. And more importantly: the lawn has been a problem for a whole season. We will be working hard on this this summer, but there will not be a completely new turf.

That’s too expensive. “A total regeneration is being done down to the sandy bottom,” Fredberg added. But since Anderlecht will probably play European football again next season, it is not an option to burden the field even more. Union will also have to look for an alternative.

The RSCA Futures will therefore also play at Heysel next season. Anderlecht will try to make the matches more attractive for the fans, so that there will be more people.
