Strike from the central circle, gust of wind and lost goalkeeper: the most improbable goal of the year scored in MLS

It’s a goal that should go down in Major Soccer League history. On Saturday, during the Eastern Conference meeting between the Chicago Fire and Montreal FC, a long ball sent from midfield landed almost miraculously in the net.

While his entire team was located near the opposing penalty area, and we were already playing the 90th + 9′, Kellyn Acosta, midfielder for the Chicago Fire, inherited a recovery ball from his goalkeeper. Advancing towards midfield, the American then seems to want to serve one of his teammates via a long cross on the right.

But, thanks to a gust of wind, his ball was gradually deflected towards the cages of Jonathan Sirois, deceived by the trajectory. The goalkeeper tried everything to stop the ball but, surprised, was unable to push it away. The ball ended up in the net, allowing Chicago to lead 4 goals to 3 and win a few seconds later.

After this victory, the Chicago Fire occupy ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings of the Major Soccer League, dominated by Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. Montreal is fifth.
