Stirati Council Faces Tense Budget Vote: All Eyes on Tomorrow’s Decision

Palazzo Pretorio, seat of the Municipality

The commission discussed and voted today (Wednesday 13 March) on the 2024-2026 budget change. The Stirati Council needs at least 13 votes out of 25 to approve the maneuver. In the commission, LeD representatives Emilio Morelli (president of the budget commission), Stefano Ceccarelli (president of the City Council) and Giacomo Castellani voted in favor. Filippo Farneti and Angelo Baldinelli voted against. Mattia Martinelli of the Gruppo Misto and Rodolfo Rughi of the 5 Star Movement abstained.

The vote of the chamber will be decisive tomorrow (Thursday 14 March), and at least two of the three who left the majority are needed, namely Martinelli who abstained today (technically it is as if he had voted against), Alessandro Brunetti and Roberto Minelli.

Rughi abstained in the commission and it would therefore be strange if he voted in favor in the City Council, where the other grillino Mauro Salciarini will also be present, although the 5 Star Movement is quick to change its mind as has also been seen at a national level.

There was no representative of the Democratic Party in the commission and therefore the behavior will be seen tomorrow in the Council chamber where Marco Cardile, Giovanni Manca and Giorgia Vergari will not be able to abstain or leave the room because 13 votes in favor are still needed.

It will be interesting to see if the negotiations at the broad centre-left table, for the coalition being built, will also forcefully enter into the current political-administrative mandate in which the Democratic Party and 5 Star are in opposition.
