Stefan de Vrij sustains a muscle injury and flies back to Milan

has left the Dutch national team selection due to a muscle injury and returns to his club, Internazionale. The 62-time international had undoubtedly hoped that national coach Ronald Koeman would grant him playing minutes in the upcoming practice matches with Scotland (Friday) and Germany (Tuesday), but has to put an end to that.

The news about De Vrij was first reported on Thursday at the end of the afternoon by the Italian journalist Pasquale Guarro and was retweeted by Italian football expert Willem Haak, among others. The latter points out that De Vrij should not drop out for the first time: “In recent seasons, he has been injured more often at important moments,” it reads. Haak does not expect the injury to be serious: “Although I assume that his place in the European Championship selection will not be in jeopardy.”

The KNVB informed FCUpdate in a response that it cannot (yet) make any announcements about a possible injury to De Vrij.
