While the end of the season once again promises to be without challenges for San Antonio, the franchise’s front office can already look ahead to the upcoming offseason. It also seems that a name that is not necessarily flashy these days in the NBA appeals to fans.
This is not a surprise but was nevertheless made official a few days ago: the Spurs will not participate in the playoffs this season. A fifth consecutive year of shortage which inevitably pushes the team’s supporters to demand movement in the squad this summer. But while the Trae Young case has recently taken a turn for the worseanother more unexpected one has just opened.
Unlikely marriage to come for Spurs and Wembanyama?
With the regular season still underway, it still seems difficult to identify all the players who will be available on the market this summer. Given his unsuccessful situation in Brooklyn, Ben Simmons could be part of it and why not discover the Western Conference. It will not have escaped anyone’s notice that San Antonio appears on this list with a rating of 6.00, the fifth best in the league. Suffice to say that this track is anything but advanced, which does not prevent Texan fans from speculating on a possible arrival of Simmons at Fort Alamo. Candidate for a buyout this summer, Ben Simmons could in this case sign wherever he wishes and at a potentially affordable price. Some Spurs fans therefore already imagine him feeding Victor Wembanyama as he did with Joel Embiid.
