Sport is far from true equality

First, the good news: gender parity at the Paris Olympics. Thomas Bach confirmed this a few days before International Women’s Day this Friday. The IOC president said they are facing one of the most important moments in the history of women at the Olympic Games. The fact that a man announces when this most important moment is stands for itself.

In 1900, also at the Summer Games in Paris, the proportion of female participants was 2.2 percent, in 1952 in Helsinki it was 10.5 percent, and in 2000 in Sydney it was 38.2 percent. 50:50 is a big step forward. But even though these numbers are the same, it doesn’t mean that everything is the same for men and women in sport.
