Speed skiing: from father Philippe to son Simon, the Billy family breaks records at 250 km/h

“We have the spirit of winning in the Billy family. » The spirit… and wins. Simon Billy is the reigning double speed ski world champion and could win a third consecutive gold medal this Sunday at the Speed Masters at home in Vars in the Hautes-Alpes. In March 2023, the 32-year-old skier also made history by setting the new speed skiing world record (255.500 km/h), seven years after that of Ivan Origone (254.958 km/h)… and twenty-six after a certain Philippe Billy, his father (243.902 km/h).

“The world record was my childhood dream, but I also did it for him. I am proud to have skied faster than my father. It’s the consecration after a lot of work and investment on his part,” explains Simon.
