The South Shore delegation, gathered in Sherbrooke this week for the 58th final of the Quebec Games, is made up of 170 athletes. Several of them represent Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Saint-Basile-le-Grand and Sainte-Julie.

Flag bearer of Saint-Bruno

Note that Wen Jie Ma is the region’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony, scheduled for this Friday, March 1. This athlete stood out during his previous season in badminton. He won silver twice and two bronze medals.

Angélie Thomassin (women’s curling), Édouard Garcia (men’s hockey), Loïc Déry (cross-country skiing) and Mathis Malois (cross-country skiing) are from Saint-Basile-le-Grand.

Gymnasts Gabie Martel and Laurence Shumanski-Rodrigue, hockey players Mérédith Couillard and Myriam Gariépy, karateka Olivier Brunelle, speed skater Audrey De Roussel as well as ringette athletes Alexia Chapados and Mika Reid represent Sainte-Julie.

Two blocks

The Quebec Games final is divided into two blocks of disciplines, from March 1 to 5 and from March 5 to 9. Athletes in gymnastics, ringette, boxing, men’s hockey, karate, badminton, trampoline and figure skating will shine in the 1st block. Athletes in women’s hockey, women’s curling, men’s curling, fencing, diving, table tennis, weightlifting, judo, speed skating and cross-country skiing will stand out in the next block.

Remember that the South Shore has won the last eight finals of the Quebec Games. Once again, the delegation will try to defend its title. This is the case for Mathieu Bernier (badminton), Romain Lecoq (gymnastics), Sébastien Gariépy (women’s hockey), Roxanne Boudeau (karate), Jean-François Marcil (ringette), Sylvie Girard (cross-country skiing) and Evelyne Laprise ( cross-country skiing). Luc Thomassin (women’s curling) is from Grandbasilois.
