Sofia Goggia aims to return to the slopes in July after her double tibia fracture

The Italian skier announced her desire to return to the slopes this summer after her serious injury which occurred a few weeks ago.

The Italian Sofia Goggia, victim of a double tibia-malleoli fracture of her right leg in early February, hopes to make her return to skis in July, she confided Thursday during a press briefing.

“The normal period (of convalescence for an injury of this type) is six months, but I could return to skis in July”declared the 2022 Olympic downhill vice-champion. “In the past, I have already had fractures, but nothing comparable with this complicated injury (…) I fractured my tibial plateau transversely in several pieces, with a very large compression and torsion trauma »she detailed about her fall during giant slalom training.

“I wanted to wait to do control exams before doing this press conference, I did them last week and here I am (…) The operation was a perfect success, it’s an excellent starting point », insisted the four-time winner of the small downhill globe (2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023). The 2018 Olympic downhill champion, who has 24 victories on the world circuit to her name, occupied 5th place in the general World Cup rankings and could aim for a new globe in downhill, her favorite discipline.

“During the twenty days following the operation, I saw everything in darkness, I was really desperate, even if I was aware that there are very serious things, but when you are an athlete, there is no There’s nothing worse than dealing with an injury.”said Bergamasca. “Finally, I realized that there were tragedies in the world worse than mine. I am not under bombs in Gaza. I tried to look at where there were sufferings much more serious than the broken leg from which we recover”she concluded.
