Sneak Peek: Belgian Red Devils’ Euro 2024 Outfit Inspired by Tintin

They will be shown to the public for the first time on Thursday, but the uniforms in which the Red Devils will perform at the European Championships in Germany next summer have already been leaked by the reliable website Footy Headlines. “I think it is 100 percent successful. It is very fresh, very beautiful and funny,” says stylist Linda Van Waesberge in De Ochtend about the away shirt.

Neither the association nor clothing sponsor Adidas want to confirm it, but footyheadlines.com, which also correctly predicted the Red Devils’ 2022 World Cup outfits, is certain: “The kit for the away matches pays tribute to the world-famous cartoon character Tintin (Tintin). in French and English, ed).”

It is not without reason that the official presentation is in the Hergé Museum in Louvain-La-Neuve, dedicated to the comic book artist who created Tintin. The away outfit is an ode to the Belgian comic hero.

What the Devils will wear in Germany corresponds to Tintin’s costume: light blue shirt, white collar, brown shorts and white stockings.

Dries Mertens thinks the design is “beautiful”, but what is the opinion of stylist Linda Van Waesberge? “I think it is 100 percent successful. It is very fresh and very beautiful and also funny, given the reference to Tintin.”

It is contemporary, but it still has something nostalgic. That fits perfectly with the spirit of today.

There is a lot of buzz on social media about the brown shorts, which not everyone is a fan of. In the past, the brown cycling shorts from Oliver Naesen and co. at AG2R a misfire for many, not least for the riders themselves.

Not so for Van Waesberge: “I find the discussion about trousers on the internet funny, but completely wrong. Because the brown looks good on dark skin, even better than on pale legs.”

A name that is also linked to the outfit is that of singer Stromae. “That is true, but he was also inspired by those types of cartoon characters,” says Van Waesberge.

For the experienced stylist, the picture is completely correct: “It is contemporary, but it still has something nostalgic. That fits perfectly with the spirit of today.”

“And the colors are perfect: they flatter everyone. I think it’s a shame that they still have to play in red, this is much nicer.”

She is a little worried about one thing: “That white collar will become dirty with sweat within a minute. Anyone who has to wash that will swear a bit.”
