THE TIME: Mr. Gasteiger, at this year’s Hahnenkamm race, the Israeli Barnabás Szöllös fell into the infamous mousetrap during training at 120 kilometers per hour. As a racing doctor, did you think to yourself: This is off to a good start?

Simon Gasteiger: Something can always happen. Drivers push themselves more to the limit in races, but the risk is also high in training. That’s why there are always the same number of doctors on the slopes.

TIME: Szöllös lost his helmet in the fall. It was clear at first glance: This was a worse accident. What is most important in such a situation?
